An ex-Amazon driver, identified as Jerome Allan Young, has received a sentence totaling 45 days of incarceration, to be followed by 45 days of home detention for hitting a pedestrian with his delivery van in Baltimore and fleeing the scene. As reported by Fox Baltimore, the incident, which occurred on February 18 around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of East Pratt and South Chester Streets, was captured on a motion sensor doorbell camera.

In addition to his sentence, Young will be placed under two years of supervised probation post-release and must complete mandatory driver’s education courses. This decision was partly influenced by the wishes of the victim, whose attorney expressed satisfaction with the handling of the case by the Baltimore City State's Attorney's Office. "After speaking with the victim’s attorney, David Ellin, he and his client were very pleased with our office, including Assistant State’s Attorneys Stephanie Maddox and Taylor Miller’s professionalism and handling of the case," stated Baltimore City State’s Attorney Ivan Bates, in a statement detailed by WMAR-2 News. Bates also conveyed his deepest sympathies to the victim who continues to endure a "painful journey of healing."

Following the collision, the victim suffered severe injuries, including nine broken ribs, five fractured vertebrae, and required five stitches in her left thigh. Young, who initially faced felony charges for the hit-and-run, saw those charges dropped after an investigation found not enough evidence to support them.

After the incident, Amazon suspended Young from delivering on their behalf, and the company cooperated with his employer and law enforcement during the investigation.
