A family of four is recovering after a gas explosion struck their home last night in the Oakleaf Plantation area of Clay County. The explosion, which occurred on Sycamore Way, sent two adults and two children to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Brandon Kimbrel, the homeowner's son, shared his relief, saying, "Thank God they made it out, because that is my mom, my grandma, my niece, and my cousin. It’s just kind of a scary situation, seeing and hearing everything that went on," in an interview with News4JAX.
First Coast News reported that the explosion was so powerful that it also knocked off the home's front door from its hinges. Details about the explosion’s cause and the current condition of the injured family members were not immediately made clear.
The home, located about 3 miles south of Argyle Forest Boulevard, sustained significant damage, with parts of the building visibly jutting out. According to a statement obtained by Action News Jax, the explosion inflicted enough force to cause visible distortion to the structure, bringing attention to the potential dangers of residential gas leaks.
The investigation into the cause of the explosion is ongoing. First responders arrived in large numbers, and the neighborhood was temporarily disrupted as they worked to secure the area. Brandon Kimbrel told News4JAX, "Everyone just walked out with a few burns and a few scratches, so that’s all that matters."
