Early Monday morning, a deadly incident unfolded as a Tesla car crashed and burst into flames in Claremont, resulting in the deaths of both the driver and the passenger. According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the accident occurred just after 2:00 a.m. at the intersection of Mills Avenue and 6th Street. ABC7 reported that the vehicle caught fire upon impact with an obstacle, though initial details surrounding the crash were sparse.
While the identities of the deceased individuals were not immediately available, the sequence of the fatal events began to be pieced together. A witness described seeing the vehicle traveling too quickly before the incident, as told to KTLA. First responders found the car engulfed in flames after it had seemingly struck a tree.
The aftermath of the crash was hazardous not only in terms of mortal peril but also due to potential chemical hazards. A hazardous materials team had to be called in to safely clean up the crash site, which marked an intersection now shadowed by tragedy. Both the Claremont Police Department and the fire department personnel worked coordinately to manage the scene and to start piecing together how this event unfolded.
