Early today, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a structure fire in Historic South-Central. The incident, logged as INC#0048, occurred at a two-story Craftsman-style home located at 125 W Adams Bl. Firefighters arrived on the scene to find the building fully involved, which prompted a defensive operation due to safety concerns. According to the LAFD alert, the second floor collapsed just before the fire was extinguished, a situation that might have rapidly turned dangerous. However, no injuries were reported among the firefighting personnel.
The fire department's quick response and decisive action allowed them to successfully defend adjacent structures from the blaze. The fire was reported to have been fully extinguished within 23 minutes by the teams that arrived first. Firefighters remained on scene after the fire was knocked down to conduct overhaul operations, ensuring no hidden flames remained. "Building and Safety notified and en route — firefighters remain on scene for overhaul," the LAFD statement confirmed.
The involved units from the LAFD included FS 10, Batt 1, Central Bureau, and Council District 9, among several others, such as emergency medical services and the Hazardous Materials unit HM21. The coordination between these teams was crucial in controlling and eventually extinguishing the fire. The Los Angeles Police Department was also involved with their own incident #0210 in connection with the fire.
The cause of the fire has not been disclosed at the time of this report. Further investigations will likely be conducted once the site is secured and safe for inspection. The Los Angeles Fire Department has not provided additional details on the aftermath of the fire or the condition of the building following the collapse of the second floor. "Exposed structures successfully defended, with fire fully extinguished in 23 minutes by first-arriving companies," affirmed the LAFD in their briefing on the event. The quick extinguishment of the fire likely prevented what could have been a more catastrophic spread of flames.
