Recklessness hit the streets of Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday afternoon as a street race took a turn for the worse. The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department reported that 26-year-old Fontana resident Jonathan Cuauhtemoc Sanchez was arrested for allegedly driving recklessly, causing his vehicle to collide with a pole. The incident, which took place at approximately 1:48 p.m. at the intersection of Haven Avenue and Civic Center Drive, involved Sanchez's vehicle crashing into a traffic light pole after he purportedly engaged in a street race.
The Sheriff's department detailed that both Sanchez and an unidentified second vehicle sped off from a red light at Foothill Boulevard and Haven Avenue. Sanchez was attempting to avoid another car when he lost control and swerved into the light pole. The deputies quickly responded to the scene, where they found Sanchez uninjured, though his vehicle rolled over and ended up in a dirt field. Deputies did not report the involvement of any other vehicles in the crash.
Following the crash, Sanchez was treated on the scene and was cleared by medical personnel before his arrest. The press release indicates that he was booked into the West Valley Detention Center for VC23103(A), which defines reckless driving. The authorities are now reaching out to the community to come forward with any additional information concerning this act of brazen driving that could have potentially endangered many lives.
