Fort Worth's fight against illegal tire dumping has taken a positive turn with the recent conclusion of a series of Scrap Tire Collection events organized by the city's Environmental Services Department. According to a report from the city, residents had the opportunity to dispose of over 1,200 tires safely, bypassing the usual methods of landfill dumping or illegal disposal. The initiative was carried out by Fort Worth's Environmental Investigations Unit (EIU) and involved residents disposing of tires from various types of vehicles, including cars and motorcycles.

There's a strong environmental angle to this initiative, as discarded tires can lead to a multitude of ecological hazards. "With a cleaner, greener Fort Worth as the primary goal, the events also helped discourage illegal dumping, reduce fire and environmental hazards and promote reuse of materials," the City of Fort Worth stated.

What happens next is also part of the story. All-American Tire Recyclers (AATR), a 100% green tire recycling facility, is poised to repurpose tires into crumb rubber for various applications, including playground surfacing and tire-derived fuel. Notably, AATR has also made significant contributions to the sporting world, with crumb rubber supplied for use in the Caesars Superdome in Louisiana, as per their contract with the City of Fort Worth.

This recycling action wasn't a solo endeavor. Fort Worth extends its gratitude to the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) and the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for their partnership and funding contributions.
