The City of Dallas has just the ticket with its Dallas Live in the Park music series, which kicks off this April. Jazz aficionados and newbies can catch free live performances across the city's parks, where local and national musicians will showcase the best jazz styles from swing to bebop.
The series starts on April 17 at Kiest Park, featuring Dallas' own Community All-Star Band and a special appearance by nationally acclaimed saxophonist Tom Braxton. As detailed by a bulletin from the City of Dallas, residents can mark their calendars for Thursday evening gigs through September—the schedule includes names like Carolyn Lee Jones, Len Barnett, and The Rob Holbert Group. Despite the impending summer heat, the parks are expected to be filled with cool tunes, starting at 6 p.m. monthly.
Jazz is as diverse as the city of Dallas itself, with styles ranging from smooth and contemporary to improvisational jazz that gets your toes tapping. According to the recent announcement, attendees at Dallas Live in the Park can expect a full range of musical experiences – rich melodies and dynamic rhythms that promise to keep you engaged through every soulful ballad and rhythmic fusion piece.
Pack a blanket or a lawn chair, because these concerts are designed for comfort. The City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture Community Arts Division, paired with the Dallas Park and Recreation Department, launched this series to unite families and communities over shared cultural experiences. It's an initiative that turns the city's green spaces into vibrant, open-air venues where everyone is invited.
