Wauwatosa residents, it's time to get your hands dirty and your gardens thriving. Announced by the city's Department of Public Works, free mulch made from local tree removals is up for grabs. According to the official Wauwatosa website, the mulch being offered is a double ground, shredded hardwood, which differs from what you might find on the shelves of your local store.
This opportunity is not just about sprucing up your flower beds; it's a recycling loop closing right in the heart of the community. With equipment and staff at the ready, the city invites you to take as much as you need. Ensuring access to everyone, the City of Wauwatosa notes that "there is no limit on the amount of mulch you can take." Whether you're rolling up in a trailer or the back of your SUV, loading assistance will be provided at the site.
The free mulch will be accessible on two Saturdays, spanning from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 26 and May 3. The distribution point will be conveniently located near the Public Works garage's northeast corner. Residents are advised to look out for signs that will guide them to the designated parking and pickup areas.
For those unable to make these dates, Wauwatosa has made provision for a summer-long self-service option. Starting from May 3, the mulch pile will be stationed just outside the drop-off center. Available until the end of summer or until supplies last, residents can stop by anytime between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. to load up their mulch independent of city staff's help. Visit the city's announcement for further details.
