The City of Garland wants to splash out $30 million to transform its Harbor Point area into a buzzing lakeside community hub. In a recent press release, Garland officials outlined their vision for Lake Ray Hubbard, proposing to enhance the waterfront with new public amenities that include trails and recreational activities. This is part of a broader bond election package dubbed Proposition D, set to hit the ballots on May 3, as per the City of Garland.
Already home to picturesque views and a mixed-use development that boasts a 270-degree waterfront exposure, Harbor Point has the potential, but it's been relatively dormant runoff till now. Plans are in motion to thread walking trails across the expanse of the region, unifying the space from north to south of Interstate 30. Furthermore, they want to ramp up the waterfront access options and rope in more lake-based activities to entice both locals and visitors.
The hope expressed by the City is that this cash injection won't just spruce up quality of life for its residents but will also pump up Harbor Point's draw as a go-to regional hotspot. In theory, this should lure in more private investment, creating a positive feedback loop of development and desirability, all without upping the tax rate for Garland's population.
