In a recent showcase of communication prowess, Gaston County has grabbed headlines by clinching two top honors at the North Carolina City & County Communicators (NC3C) 2025 Excellence in Communications Awards. Competing against a robust assembly of peers, Gaston's efforts in engaging the public won them first and second place accolades, recognized among 27 North Carolina jurisdictions celebrated at the annual conference on April 10.
With an astounding 179 entries from 47 local government bodies, the competition, adjudicated by the Minnesota Association of Government Communicators, was fiercer than ever. Gaston County impressed the judges, particularly, with a humorous twist on National Trails Day, where a Bigfoot-themed video earned them a second place in the Best Use of Humor category. Their social media clout, particularly evident in the viral traction gained by a MedCat video feature from the Gaston County Rides series, landed them a first place in the Social Media: Single Post category. This viral sensation accrued over 375,000 views, sparking lively conversations that transcended county lines.
NC3C President Kaisha Brown praised the expanding range of talent and increasing competition at this year's awards. "Every person who entered should be proud of their work," Brown said in a statement obtained by Gaston County Government website. From crisis communication to rich digital content that connects, Brown underscored the intrinsic value government communicators add in keeping North Carolina's residents well-informed and connected.
The accolade came with appreciation from peers, with one judge noting the thoughtfulness behind Gaston County's vehicle showcase. "Fantastic concept and strategy in showcasing your [county’s] diverse fleet vehicles," the judge commented, signaling a successful route ahead for the county's innovative series. Adam Gaub, who finds his seat on the 10-member board of directors for NC3C, eyes a new presidential term next spring, setting the stage for sustained excellence in government communication strategies and initiatives, as per the Gaston County Government website.
