
Over the weekend, a tense situation unfolded in a quiet Gastonia neighborhood as a man barricaded himself inside a residence with a juvenile, according to police. The individual, identified as 52-year-old Thomas Hester, was involved in a standoff with law enforcement Sunday afternoon on Crestview Street. According to QC News, Gastonia Police and the Regional SWAT Team arrived at the scene just before 4 p.m. following a call about the incident.
After almost two hours of standoff, Hester surrendered to the authorities peacefully, the events unfolded without violence, a relief to both officers and residents in proximity. WCNC shared that He was subsequently booked into the Gaston County Jail facing charges including second-degree kidnapping and, resisting a public officer.
Information on what specifically led Hester to barricade himself with a juvenile has not been made public by the police department. Nevertheless, it is known that Hester is currently being held under a $5,000 secured bond, as per the reporting of QC News.
