Ford International Airport has officially launched its first-ever mascot, Jerry the Jet, aiming to elevate the overall guest experience and endorse the world of aviation within West Michigan. As reported by WZZM13, Jerry was introduced to an attentive crowd this past Friday, envisioned to be a friendly and educational ambassador at both the airport and regional community events.
Riding on the momentum of a period of substantial growth – including breaking passenger records and expanding service options – the airport has chosen to strategically to introduce Jerry the Jet to further interact with guests and to stimulate interest in aviation-related careers and the importance of airport services that connect people. "This is more than just a mascot," Tory Richardson, the airport authority's president and CEO, told WWMT. "Jerry the Jet™ is a fun, approachable way for us to connect with our guests and our community while sparking curiosity about aviation."
Aiming to bring an aspect of excitement to the everyday terminal operations, Jerry the Jet will be available to greet travelers as they transverse through the airport facilities. Not limited to just terminal appearances, the mascot is set to show up at various regional events to help disseminate knowledge related to aviation, travel, and career opportunities in the field, expanding the airport's reach and community integration.
According to a FOX 17 Online report, Richardson further detailed that the addition of the mascot reflects a sustained commitment to providing a positive and lasting impression for airport guests. "When people are here, they have a wonderful positive memory of whatever interaction they have," he said, emphasizing that Jerry is to symbolize the airport's dedication to excellence and adventure. Notably, while certain details about Jerry's scheduled appearances and educational roles remain yet to be disclosed, Richardson assured Jerry would be visible in "lots of different places, in lots of different ways."
The Grand Rapids-based airport connects numerous destinations within the United States and abroad, now with an additional, albeit unconventional, crewmember on board to steer the airport toward a more interactive future.
