Gearing up for another electoral bout, Greg Lopez, a name familiar to Colorado's Republican political landscape, has declared his intent to run for governor once again. Lopez's campaign kicked off with an online video released on Monday, where he spoke of a "Colorado in decay" and put forth what he called a unity agenda, as reported by 9NEWS, marking a third bid to lead the state.
Lopez has vied for the governor's seat twice before, coming up short in the Republican primaries both in 2018 and 2022. Besides his bids for governor, Lopez's tenure in public office includes a brief six months in Congress, and before that, he served as mayor for the Town of Parker, as noted by KDVR. Despite his short-lived congressional tenure, Lopez once described his stint in Washington as an "honor and a pleasure" and likened it to being an exchange student, according to The Denver Post.
The Coloradan politician had also shown interest in federal-level positions, dabbling in a brief 2016 U.S. Senate race before bowing out. His past roles include that of a director at the Small Business Administration. Moreover, in 2020, Lopez reached a settlement with the Trump administration's Department of Justice over allegations relating to conflict-of-interest policies, as The Denver Post reported.
