Ellen Pompeo, known for her role as Meredith Grey in the hit show "Grey's Anatomy," now finds a more permanent mark on Hollywood through a star on the Walk of Fame. The Tuesday unveiling of Pompeo's star, the 2,809th on the famed boulevard, was a celebration fit for a queen of Thursday night TV. The KTLA reported that Shonda Rhimes and Debbie Allen, formidable forces in their own right, were present to emcee, showering Pompeo with accolades and shining light on the actress's contributions both on and off-screen.
According to KABC, Ana Martinez of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce hailed the event as a nod to Pompeo's "remarkable talent" and "lasting impact in the entertainment industry," while also highlighting Pompeo's new engagement as executive producer, as the show goes into its 22nd season. Pompeo has etched herself into the cultural zeitgeist, embodying a character who has triumphed and agonized, loved and lost, across a rare television tenure that has both shattered norms and heart rates, the pulse of "Grey's" respective lifeline.
In her speech, Pompeo made sure to point out the unsung heroes of Tinseltown, her loyal team, and all those who work tirelessly behind the scenes, "I have been so lucky to be surrounded by a lot of stars who do their thing every day and who do it brilliantly in this town," she told the crowd, as recounted by KTLA. Affectionately speaking to her audience, she whimsically nudged them towards housekeeping, "keep Hollywood Boulevard clean," and also dropped a hint of advocacy for the arts, urging the reopening of the fabled Arclight theatre.
As "Grey's Anatomy" approaches its season finale for the 21st season, Pompeo seems there's not stopping as she juggles her role of Meredith Grey with her new project "Good American Family," a Hulu limited series about to wrap up its first season, NBC Los Angeles reports the timing could not be more fortuitous.
