Gunfire took hold at the intersection in Exposition Park this afternoon, leaving one man dead and another injured. KTLA reports that the Los Angeles Police Department received reports of the shooting near Western Avenue and Exposition Boulevard shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Upon arrival, officers found two individuals with gunshot wounds - a young man, originally believed to be a teenager but later stated to be around 20 years old, and another man between 30 to 40 years old who was unconscious but breathing at the time.

Both victims were quickly transported to the hospital, where the older man was later pronounced dead. The condition of the younger man remains unclear, with earlier statements from the LAPD suggesting he was a 15-year-old boy. However, this was later corrected to indicate he was approximately 20 years old, as noted by CBS News. Police have not released the identities of either victim as their investigation unfolds.

The LAPD shut down the intersection for several hours to conduct their investigation and canvass the area for evidence and witnesses. Aerial footage and reports from onlookers showed an intensified police presence, with the crime scene encompassing the Expo/Western Metro stop. According to NBC Los Angeles, officials are on the lookout for an individual seen wearing black pants and a black hooded sweatshirt, last spotted heading northbound on Western Avenue.

As a result of the police activity, Metro service was significantly disrupted. Trains on the E Line were replaced with buses between Expo/Vermont and Expo/Crenshaw stations. Further, trains turned back at Expo/Crenshaw for Santa Monica and at Expo/Vermont for East L.A., while Line 207 buses detoured between Jefferson and MLK. Despite an interruption, Metro later updated that service was partially restored, though the Expo/Western Station remained closed. Commuters were advised to use shuttle buses from Expo/Crenshaw and Expo/Vermont to reach the affected area.
