Hamtramck police are intensifying their efforts to locate the suspect responsible for the shooting of two teenagers on Dyar Street near Carpenter and I-75. The incident, which occurred yesterday, resulted in a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl, reportedly a couple, being wounded. The girl, hit by a bullet, grazed the head, and the boy shot in the torso, are both anticipated to survive their injuries, according to WWJ Newsradio.
While the two teenagers' conditions were initially unstable, they are now in stable condition and are expected to make a full recovery. Despite the lack of details regarding the motivation behind the argument that precipitated the shootings, Hamtramck Police Chief Jamiel Altaheri expressed optimism about finding the assailant due to established community ties, "We have good relations with the community here, everyone here, from the elders, the young," he emphasized in remarks reported by WXYZ.
The shooting took place in an area known for community events, and this instance is considered an anomaly in an otherwise supportive neighborhood. "It’s just unfortunate, this situation does not represent the entire community. But at the end of the day, we have to come together, police and community, to apprehend this individual and send a strong message of stop the violence, stop the cycle of violence," Chief Altaheri told FOX 2 Detroit.
