A high-speed pursuit that began in Hollywood resulted in a tense standoff and subsequent arrest near Marina del Rey on Friday. According to reports from KTLA, the incident began around 10:10 a.m. at Franklin and Highland avenues. The Los Angeles Police Department identified the driver of a white Ford Mustang as a suspect wanted for alleged domestic violence.
The chase escalated quickly, with the suspect reaching speeds over 100 mph on area freeways. It drew to a close shortly before 11:00 a.m. when the driver halted alongside the 90 Freeway near Marina del Rey, KTLA continued. Multiple police vehicles surrounded the vehicle, and a standoff ensued. All lanes of the roadway were closed during the standoff, causing significant traffic delays in an area already known for congestion.
The standoff was brief, however, with a team of officers rapidly approaching the vehicle around 11:05 a.m., as reported by CBS Los Angeles. The officers pulled out both the male driver and a woman passenger, whose relationship with the driver was not immediately detailed.
Throughout the pursuit, SkyCal captured aerial footage of the Mustang swerving through lanes and nearly colliding with other vehicles. No injuries were reported despite the reckless driving. Further information, obtained by ABC7, indicated that the pursuit touched West Los Angeles and included stretches on the 405 Freeway, Santa Monica, and areas near LAX.
NBC Los Angeles also captured the moment when the suspect, at one point, exited the vehicle to communicate with the officers during the standoff. The standoff ended when officers decided to swarm the vehicle, quickly apprehending the suspect and taking the woman passenger into custody. The driver was wanted in connection with a domestic violence investigation, which triggered the high-stakes pursuit and standoff that disrupted traffic and drew the eyes of Los Angeles to the unfolding drama on the 90 Freeway.
