Authorities have recently charged a suspect in the connection with a fatal shooting that took place last year on Westmont Drive. The House Police Department (HPD) released a statement confirming that the 16-year-old male suspect, whose identity remains withheld due to his juvenile status, is now facing a capital murder charge. This update comes nearly five months after the incident on the morning of November 30, as per the City of Houston release.
On the morning of November 30, HPD officers responded to a report of a person down on 600 Westmont Drive. They found Anthony Santos-Baca, also known as Anthony Gonzalez, lying near the road with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by Houston Fire Department paramedics to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene, as reported by HPD Homicide Detectives M. Hughey and L. Lovelace.
The initial investigation into the shooting suggested the events transpired the night before, on November 29. It wasn't until the suspect was detained for unrelated reasons that he eventually spoke to authorities about his involvement, leading to his referral to the Harris County Juvenile Probation Authorities. HPD's continued investigation efforts shed further light on the suspect and his alleged involvement in Gonzalez's death.
HPD is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Tips can be shared directly with the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or anonymously with Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
