An intense fire engulfed a commercial structure in Irvine this past Saturday, with the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) working tirelessly to bring the situation under control after nearly three hours of effort. The blaze was first reported at about 2:30 p.m. on Kettering Street, nestled between Gillette Avenue and Armstrong Avenue. Firefighting teams arrived on the scene to find much of the building consumed by flames, prompting the declaration of a Third Alarm and a defensive battle strategy, CBS News Los Angeles reported.
Authorities temporarily closed Alton Parkway and Aston Street to traffic to provide unobstructed access for emergency services. Despite the severity of the inferno, Fire Captain Thanh Nguyen confirmed that all building personnel were safely evacuated. In the hours that followed, multiple agencies, including the Irvine Police Department, Costa Mesa Fire & Rescue, and the Newport Fire Department, joined forces to successfully extinguish the fire, as noted by ABC7.
No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident, a fortunate outcome considering the potential hazards present. Arson investigators have been dispatched to the scene to thoroughly examine the building and determine the cause of the fire. As of the latest update, the exact nature of the business that occupied the building remains unclear, with firefighters unable to immediately identify the type of operations that took place within its walls.
As the evening progressed, the Irvine Police Department provided a traffic update via Facebook, announcing "ALTON IS NOW OPEN!" and extending gratitude to the OCFA for their efforts in tackling the fire. This post also acknowledged the substantial assistance provided by the Costa Mesa Fire Department and confirmed the reopening of local roads that had been previously closed due to the fire. Motorists were advised to seek alternative routes during the firefighting operation, a notice that has been subsequently lifted as per the Irvine Police Department's Facebook post.
