The City of Jacksonville, Florida is preparing for an increase in young kittens arriving at local shelters as kitten season begins. Many of these kittens will arrive without their mothers and require special care, including frequent feedings, from shelter staff and volunteers until they are old enough to eat solid food.
The City of Jacksonville's Facebook page shared a post from the Animal Care & Protective Services requesting donations to help meet the needs of these kittens. The shelter’s foster department is specifically requesting items such as Snugglesafes, which are heating pads used to keep underage kittens warm. Donors also have the option to make homemade versions using rice and new socks.
To streamline donations, the shelter has created a kitten registry that lists needed supplies. Community support will help provide essential items for the care of kittens during this busy season.
Residents who wish to donate can visit the registry link or sign up for the kitten shower. For more information on fostering or other ways to contribute, individuals can contact the ACPS Fosters team at [email protected].
