Following an on-duty incident in March where shots were fired into a semi-truck, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Marc Crawford has been reassigned as the investigation continues. According to News4Jax, Crawford is now part of the tele-serve team, a unit that deals with minor incidents over the phone, effectively reducing the burden on field officers.

While specifics of the shooting are yet to be disclosed, the incident occurred during rush hour traffic on March 10 and involved Lt. Crawford's vehicle repeatedly making contact with a semi-truck and afterward, discharging his firearm four times into the truck's engine bay. As reported by First Coast News, the truck driver, a man in his 70s, was not injured and has been cooperating with the police. Lt. Crawford was taken to the hospital for a shoulder injury sustained under unclear circumstances.

The reassignment to the tele-serve team means that Lt. Crawford will handle non-emergency reports via the Citizen Online Reporting System. "Crawford will not be in a management role," First Coast News was told by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. This move was made in order to alleviate the load on patrol officers, allowing them to attend more promptly to higher priority calls.

More than a month since the event, no charges have been filed against Lt. Crawford. The ongoing investigation by the State Attorney's Office is still active with no further details released currently. This was Crawford's fourth officer-involved shooting in his career, which spans over two decades at JSO. According to a spokesperson's statement obtained by Action News Jax, Crawford has been with the JSO for 21 years and this reassignment is a significant step in their procedural handling, despite the lack of formal charges to date.
