In a recent domestic altercation in northern Kent County, a teenage boy was injured following a shooting incident at a residence. According to FOX 17, the Kent County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene on Keller Avenue just south of 21 Mile Road after midnight on Monday, April 21, where emergency responders found a teen who had been shot in the foot as a result of a dispute that turned violent between two adults.
A struggle over a gun escalated, which during the fight, incidentally caused the firearm to discharge, striking the nearby teen boy. As reported by WZZM 13, another child present in the home at the time ran to a neighbor's house to seek assistance. The teen has been treated and released from the hospital, fortunately sustaining only minor injuries.
Andres Simon-Salgado, 39, was identified as the individual involved who fled the scene before deputies arrived. He was later located and taken into custody in Greenville, now held at the Kent County Correctional Facility. "Investigators say 39-year-old Andres Simon-Salgado was taken into custody in Greenville," stated the report from FOX 17.
The situation has drawn the attention of the Kent County Prosecutor's Office that will review the case, which, as the sheriff's office also confirmed, involves Simon-Salgado being investigated for illegally re-entering the U.S., and federal authorities have been alerted of his status. Running from the home before deputies arrived, Simon-Salgado's arrest was described as "without incident" by MLive.
