The City of Kissimmee welcomed Charles "Chuck" Broadway as its new chief of police in a meet-and-greet event followed by a swearing-in ceremony. Broadway, who brings nearly three decades of law enforcement experience, is the city's 35th and first African-American police chief. WFTV reported that the reception allowed community members to engage with Broadway and learn about his vision for the town before the official ceremony.

Broadway's career history includes serving as the police chief of Clermont since 2012 and a tenure as a special agent supervisor with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. His appointment to Kissimmee's leadership comes from a misconduct cover-up investigation last year that led to former Chief Betty Holland's resignation. According to WESH, Broadway aims to lead with a focus on "professionalism, accountability and community trust."

In a statement detailed by Around Osceola, Broadway expressed his ambition and intention to influence positively, saying, "Leadership is about influence. I hope to make a positive impact in this community and on the men and women who protect it." He outlined the pillars of his vision for the Kissimmee Police Department (KPD), which include building trust, strengthening community engagement, particularly with youth, and maintaining high public safety standards.

Amidst Broadway's taking the helm, the KPD is expected to experience changes that boost its effectiveness and community collaboration. Broadway reiterated his commitment: "We will make it uncomfortable for those who choose to commit crimes in the city of Kissimmee, while making decisions that uphold the community values," as reported by Around Osceola. Additionally, Orange County Sheriff's Maj. Robert Anzueto, who served as interim chief ahead of Broadway's arrival, received a commendation for addressing the department's recent challenges.
