The long search for Las Vegas' new city auditor has come to a close as the City Council unanimously approved Bryan Smith for the position. The decision was sealed in today's council meeting, solidifying Smith's place after an extensive tenure with the city spanning over a quarter-century, as reported by the Las Vegas City news bulletin.
Smith, whose resume boasts more than three decades dedicated to audit work, began to hone his expertise in Seattle as a financial auditor for Ernst & Young LLP, accruing experience and securing his status as a certified public accountant, before progressing to an audit manager role, and then moving to the firm’s Salt Lake City office, taking with him just over seven years of meaningful experience from Seattle, alongside his promotion. In Las Vegas, he has been a beacon of dedication, moving up the ranks from auditor to senior auditor, and then audit manager, a testament to his commitment to enhancing the city's operations through comprehensive audits of various departments.
The professional journey of Bryan Smith is marked by notable academic achievements, having graduated from Brigham Young University with both a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Master of Accountancy back in 1990. His credentials are further bolstered by his certifications as a public accountant in Nevada and Washington, and his status as a certified fraud examiner – distinctions that speak to his expertise and readiness for this responsibility.
Smith steps in to fill the shoes of previous City Auditor Radford Snelding who left a legacy of service upon his retirement last year, Smith is set to carry forward this mantle with the same diligence he has exhibited throughout his storied career; in this new chapter, as Las Vegas' fiscal watchdog, he will aim to maintain the integrity of the city’s financial checks and balances.
