The streets of Las Vegas will soon echo with the footsteps of runners and walkers joining together to commemorate two of the city's venerated figures. On a date yet to be announced, the Lois and Larry C. Bolden 5K Fun Run/Walk will pay homage to the legacy of a driven educator and a groundbreaking law enforcement leader. Organized by the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Theta Theta Omega Chapter and Twenty Pearls Foundation, Inc., the event is set to bolster the Theta Theta Omega Scholarship Fund, aiding students across Clark County.
Remembered for her service and commitment to education, the late Lois Bolden was not just a charter member of Theta Theta Omega but also, she was a pillar in the Las Vegas educational landscape. Alongside her, Larry Bolden, her husband, earned distinct recognition, becoming the first Black Deputy Chief of the Las Vegas Police Department. Both shared a commitment to fostering community growth and opening new avenues for leadership and excellence within the city they called home. Running in their honor, participants will support a cause close to the Boldens' hearts—education.
An announcement posted by the LVMPD on X describes the event as a "celebration of service, scholarship, and community leadership," affirming the intent to not merely run a race but to collectively celebrate the strides made by Lois and Larry Bolden. With every step taken by the participants, the event stands to remind Las Vegas of the enduring impact two individuals can have on a community through a lifetime dedicated to service and upliftment.
