A traffic collision that claimed the life of a 70-year-old motorcyclist in Long Beach has led to an ongoing investigation by local authorities. The incident, which occurred at the intersection of Studebaker Road and Atherton Street on March 24, 2024, involved a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

According to the initial investigation, at around 8:51 p.m., a 2022 Yamaha motorcycle, traveling southbound on Studebaker Road, collided with a 2011 Hyundai making a left turn. The collision resulted in critical injuries to the motorcyclist, later identified as Leonard Tanguay, a resident of Long Beach. Following the crash, Tanguay was transported by the Long Beach Fire Department to a local hospital, where he remained until his death on March 31, 2025, as reported by the Long Beach Police Department.

The department has stated that neither speed, impaired driving, nor distracted driving is considered a factor in the incident. As Tanguay succumbed to his injuries a week after the collision, detectives continue to appeal to the public for any witnesses who may come forward with information regarding the fatal event.

Those who may have witnessed the accident are encouraged by Detective Joseph Johnson of the LBPD Collision Investigation Detail to come forward with information.
