A disturbing incident of animal abuse in Long Beach, filmed and circulated on social media, is currently under investigation, after a video surfaced showing a man violently attacking a dog early Monday morning. According to KTLA, the abuse occurred around 5:36 a.m. outside of 235 E. 12th Street, with footage displaying a man, identified by his skateboard, hoisting a medium-sized brown dog by the leash and slamming it into the ground.

The video, which has provoked widespread outrage, additionally captured the man kicking the dog's face and dragging it along the pavement, PETA has responded by offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the abuser and the dog's whereabouts. PETA Senior Vice President Colleen O’Brien emphasized that the dog remains in danger and urged the public to come forward with any pertinent information. The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) echoed the sentiments, citing that animal abuse will not be tolerated and encouraging witnesses or those with knowledge of the event to contact their non-emergency dispatch at 562-435-6711, as posted on social media by the LBPD.

Local Long Beach residents have been left shocked by the abuse, with one witness, Adalhi Montes, recounting to ABC7 how he was dismayed to see such cruelty early in the morning, captured by his home's security camera. Jessica Campos, also a resident, expressed her disgust, noting the dog's subdued reaction to the assault as indicative of potentially ongoing abuse.

The case remains open with no arrests as of the latest updates. The LBPD's statement assures that Long Beach Animal Care Services is also involved, actively investigating to ensure the welfare of the dog involved; however, neither the arrest of the assailant nor the location of the dog has been confirmed, with residents and online communities continuing the search and the LBPD and Animal Care Services calling for public assistance and vigilance, as reported by FOX LA and their coverage of this ongoing investigation.
