The Long Beach Public Library is opening its doors to community input for the revitalization project of the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library Garden. A Community Feedback Meeting is slated for April 28, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the library, located at 5870 Atlantic Ave., where locals can voice their ideas for the garden's redesign. According to the library's announcement, the project aims to upgrade the garden to serve as a sustainable, accessible space that encourages learning and community bonding.
Attendees at the meeting will be able to directly contribute their suggestions and actively participate in a hands-on activity titled 'Design Your Own Garden.' This initiative is part of the effort to ensure the updated garden not only meets the present requirements of Long Beach residents but also seamlessly integrates into the broader tapestry of this community's landscape. In line with these collaborative efforts, the library promises to foster an inclusive environment where all voices can be heard.
Moreover, the feedback gathered during this session will critically shape the garden's future, with an emphasis on sustainability and accessibility enhancements. The updated garden also seeks to embody a space of learning and community connection, reflecting the values held by its namesake.
Following the Community Feedback Meeting, the implementation phase is set to kick off in June after a garden cleanup in May. The library's team invites everyone interested in the future of this green urban oasis to attend the meeting and contribute their perspective. They aim to bring a refreshed communal garden space to life, with the grand completion and community celebration scheduled for September.
