Los Angeles commuters faced unexpected delays Friday morning after Caltrans announced the closure of multiple southbound lanes on the 101 Freeway for urgent repairs. According to the announcement made just after 9:30 a.m. and reported by KTLA, a bridge joint near Temple Street necessitated emergency interventions, prompting the shutdown of three lanes and the diversion of all southbound traffic to I-110.
Caltrans initially estimated a disruption lasting around four hours, but, Sky5 aerial footage and subsequent updates confirmed a speedier resolution. By a little after 11:00 a.m., traffic was observed to be flowing normally, with Caltrans confirming an early Friday afternoon reopening of the lanes. KTLA also noted the quick action taken to address the issue.
Complementing these reports, an advisory about the repair work was also shared by Caltrans District 7. The post echoed the details made available by other news outlets, pinpointing the specific location of the bridge joint that required attention and reaffirming the anticipated four-hour duration of the lane closures.
