The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is warning that certain popular stretches of coastline are now on a water use warning list due to elevated bacterial levels. Authorities advise against swimming, surfing, or engaging in any water play at Santa Monica Pier and Topanga Canyon Beach in Malibu, where bacterial levels currently exceed health standards. Specifically, it's the areas extending 100 yards north and south from Santa Monica Pier and the lagoon at Topanga Canyon Beach, as noted on the County's bulletin.
Mothers Beach in Marina Del Rey has been given the all-clear after tests showed the water quality was back within state safety standards.
For those who want to stay up-to-date on the go, the County provides a 24-hour beach closure hotline at 1-800-525-5662.
