Beachgoers in Los Angeles County might want to hold off on diving into the waves for now. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is waving the red flag at several popular coastal spots, cautioning visitors about elevated bacterial levels in the ocean water that can pose health risks.
Among the impacted areas, Topanga Canyon Beach in Malibu and the surrounding 100 yards are currently under an ocean water use warning. The same goes for Redondo Beach Pier and Castlerock Storm Drain at Topanga County Beach, plus 100 yards around the Marie Canyon Storm Drain at Puerco Beach. According to the Department of Public Health, these advisories are in place "due to bacterial levels exceeding health standards when last tested."
The warnings have been lifted for the Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro, where recent tests showed water quality levels back within the state's acceptable range.
Anyone craving real-time updates or more details on these advisories can access information via the County's 24-hour beach closure hotline at 1-800-525-5662.
