Yesterday, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to an incident on the southbound 101 Freeway by the Cahuenga overpass, where a woman was reported to be on the edge of the overpass before moving onto the freeway towards the center divider. The LAFD immediately took action to shut down the highway for the safety of the woman and the drivers, stated the LAFD in their public alert.
The section of the 101 Freeway was closed temporarily around 12:32 P.M. as firefighters worked to reach and safely interact with the individual, who was not injured. The closure was necessary to enable the rescue ambulance to access and transport the patient away from the freeway, which prompted drivers in the area to seek alternate routes. Traffic was affected in the surrounding Hollywood Hills area, as drivers tried to navigate around the freeway closure.
The LAFD confirmed through their alert that the rescue operation was successful and the woman was safely removed from the freeway. However, the freeway remained closed for a short duration afterward to ensure the area was cleared and safe for reopening to traffic.
