Drivers in Colorado, buckle up for a smoother ride along the US Highway 24 from Florissant to Woodland Park, thanks to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and its contract partner, Martin Marietta. Starting April 28, a major resurfacing project will breathe new life into approximately 12 miles of road surface, set to wrap up in November 2025. According to CDOT, the construction will stretch from mile point 269.4 near Florissant to mile point 281 just west of Woodland Park, and along CO Highway 67 in Woodland Park from mile point 76.9 to 77.5 at Red Feather Lane.
Motorists should be aware of the inevitable daytime and nighttime closures as crews toil from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and end earlier at noon on Friday. Occasional nighttime work will take place between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. from Sunday night to Friday morning, leading to potential delays of up to 15 minutes. The work zone will see single lane closures, with alternating traffic directed by a pilot car, and lowered speed limits for safety.
The list of enhancements includes milling of the tired asphalt and laying down a fresh layer, projected to extend the highway's life by a decade, along with replacing guardrails, and upgrading curbs and gutters. These upgrades will also meet new safety standards, featuring a taller, 31-inch guardrail designed to better rein in vehicles from leaving the pavement, aiming to make the highway a safer corridor.
