A man in his 30s is in critical condition after being stabbed early Thursday morning at the Metro Sierra Madre Villa station, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The stabbing occurred around 7:45 a.m., prompting a swift response from emergency personnel. The victim sustained multiple stab wounds and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, NBC Los Angeles reports. Authorities have detained a person of interest in connection with the attack. The motive remains under investigation.
This incident follows a similar stabbing last month at the Metro B Line’s Universal City/Studio City Station, where a passenger was injured after an altercation. In that case, the suspect fled the scene, and the victim survived with non-life-threatening injuries, FOX LA reported. Thursday’s attack led to the temporary closure of the Sierra Madre station as detectives conducted their investigation. Commuters were advised to use Pasadena Transit Line 40 at Allen Station and take advantage of Metro shuttle buses rerouted to assist passengers during the disruption. Additional information on A Line parking and alternate transit options was made available on Metro’s website, according to CBS News Los Angeles.
In a statement, Metro thanked law enforcement for their prompt action: “Metro is grateful to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department who found and assisted a person on the pedestrian bridge leading to the Sierra Madre Station on the A Line, after that person was injured following an apparent altercation,” the agency said.
As of now, the circumstances leading up to the stabbing remain unclear. Authorities have not yet released additional details. The investigation is ongoing.
