Authorities are piecing together the events following a tragic shooting on the interchange of the 105 and 110 freeways in South Los Angeles, an incident which led to a temporary freeway closure and ended with one man dead.
The California Highway Patrol received a report of possible gunfire around 10:00 p.m. Thursday, NBC Los Angeles reported. Officers found the body of an unidentified man next to an older model silver Toyota Corolla with shattered windows on the southbound connector road to the eastbound 105 Freeway, suggesting a car-to-car shooting may have taken place.
Following the discovery, a SigAlert was issued, closing down lanes on both the northbound and southbound transition roads to the east, approximately at 10:45 p.m., according to KTLA. The lanes were later reopened early Friday morning after an hour-long investigation by CHP officers who were seen searching the surrounding area for evidence.
The search for the suspect continues, however, no description or motive has been provided by authorities yet. Meanwhile, first responders who arrived at the scene declared the victim dead next to the vehicle, with "the passenger-side windows of the Toyota were shattered," as reported by FOX LA. To gather more information, CHP is urging anyone who may have witnessed unusual activity in the area to come forward and contact them.
Amidst the grim investigation, video obtained by ABC7 shows what appeared to be family and friends of the victim speaking with authorities at the scene. As the connector road was finally reopened after the overnight closure, authorities asked drivers traveling through the area to proceed with caution, as announced by CBS News Los Angeles.
