In recognition of Earth Day, the Mayor's office will host a special edition of the Sustainability Speaker Series on April 17. The event will feature Maui-based educator and voyager Mary Anna (Enriquez) Grimes and will take place at the Mayor’s Conference Room at 200 S. High St., Wailuku, as reported by the County of Maui.

The talk titled "Organizing Across Oceania & Strategizing by the Stars" will focus on the intersections of sailing, education, and environmental conservation. Grimes will share insights from her work with Papahana Kuaola and Moʻokiha O Piʻilani, and her role in developing the curriculum for the Hōkūleʻa and Hikianalia voyages, according to the County of Maui.

Grimes holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and special education, and a master's degree in education from Whittier College. She will be presenting as part of an initiative by the Mayor's office to promote sustainable practices in the community. The open event will cover topics like climate resilience and cultural stewardship, with a focus on traditional Polynesian navigation.
