Mayor Muriel Bowser, along with Chief of Police Pamela A. Smith, will announce a 26% decrease in violent crime since the beginning of the year. The press event on Thursday in Navy Yard will not just highlight past progress but also introduce a new initiative focused on reducing juvenile crime, as reported by the Office of the Mayor.
At the Office of the Mayor official announcement, Mayor Bowser, Chief Smith, and Deputy Mayor Lindsey Appiah will also take part in a community safety walk to connect directly with residents. The focus is on reducing juvenile crime, with a shift toward rehabilitation and guidance for youth, rather than just punishment. The event will be held at the intersection of New Jersey Avenue SE and M Street SE, offering a chance to reflect on current crime issues and discuss plans for a safer future.
The District is committed to public safety, and press conferences have become key for sharing new strategies with the public. Media members who want to attend are asked to RSVP to [email protected]. For those who can't attend in person, the DC Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment will provide a live feed on the Office of the Mayor's website and other broadcast channels.
