
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass convened with local and state leaders, aiming to ensure the city is all set for a global showcase with the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. During the weekend, Mayor Bass hammered out specifics with political figures from around L.A. County, which includes 88 cities. Assemblymember Tina McKinnor and Mayor Bass also held court with the L.A. County State Legislative Delegation on Sunday, iterating the significance of these events for the region.
"We must all work together to ensure that Los Angeles benefits from the coming 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games and 2026 FIFA World Cup," Mayor Bass stated in a press release. The mayor believes these events are ripe with opportunity to boost the city's presence on the world stage, and to blatantly ensure lasting spoils for Angelenos. According to the mayor's statement, "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I look forward to continued collaboration with leaders throughout the region to ensure that we seize this opportunity and deliver safe and successful events for all."
On deck for the state meeting were influential names, including Senators María Elena Durazo and Ben Allen, plus Assemblymembers such as Rick Chavez Zbur and Jessica Caloza, among others. Meanwhile, the regional convening pulled in figures including Mayor of Maywood Mayra Aguiluz and Mayor of Inglewood James Butts, to name just a couple of the extensive list of attendees. The meetings saw the leaders converging to thrash out shared priorities and preparation strategies for the significant influx of visitors and eyeballs the international events are guaranteed to draw.
