A McKeesport man, identified as Maurice Johnson, has been arrested on charges including attempted homicide after a violent incident during a domestic dispute in Arnold, Westmoreland County. According to Audacy, the 26-year-old knocked down the door of a residence on the 1700 block of 3rd Avenue, where he allegedly stabbed one woman and assaulted another.
The ordeal took a darker turn as WTAE reported that Johnson had followed the victims to several bars in the Arnold and New Kensington area before committing the alleged attack. The woman who suffered stab injuries was transported to a Pittsburgh-area hospital for emergency surgery. Johnson's apprehension involved a short foot pursuit by the authorities, after which he was taken into custody and charged with multiple offenses.
Details of the criminal complaint filed against Johnson were shared by TribLive, stating that the injured woman "was awake and alert and had minor bleeding controlled with a towel and self-pressure. She confronted the grim reality of her situation and felt "part of the knife still inside her chest." Another woman in the house also reported being hit repeatedly by Johnson, resulting in minor bruising and scratches.
During the investigation, Johnson offered an unsettling account. He said that he walked into the home, told a woman, “If this is what you want, then so be it,” and left. Despite initially providing authorities with a false name, his identity was confirmed by New Kensington police, which led to his detention. He rationalized his flight from police and use of a false name by saying, "They wouldn’t tell me what was going on, so I wasn’t going to give them what they wanted," TribLive reported.
Johnson was denied bail and remains in the Westmoreland County jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 24.
