In an announcement by North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey, a Mecklenburg County woman stands charged with insurance fraud, implicating her in an elaborate scheme to swindle funds from her insurance provider. Blondell Denise Andrews, 51, has been arrested on allegations of falsifying a property damage claim, now facing the consequences of her purported actions, reported the NC Department of Insurance.
According to officials, Andrews crafted a claim complete with 28 photographs which she stated were evidence of mold and water damage to her personal items - yet, a dedicated investigation unearthed a different narrative, revealing that the images had been culled from various corners of the internet, thereby categorizing Andrews's claim as nothing short of fraudulent, the department elaborated. Confronted with the gravity of her alleged deceit, Andrews has been served a criminal summons and is expected to face the music at the Mecklenburg District County Court on April 30.
Commissioner Causey emphasized the broader impact of such fraudulent activity, denoting its sting on the common consumer; "Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet," he stated, noting how fraud inflates the cost of premiums, quoting from the NC Department of Insurance's release, and the department's commitment to curb these financially injurious crimes through rigorous prosecution efforts in North Carolina.
The department's release also contains a plea to the general public, calling on anyone with knowledge of insurance fraud or similar white-collar crimes to come forward; the path to report such crimes has been made clear, with avenues offered including a call to the NC Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division or using their toll-free hotline, assuring anonymity for whistle-blowers who choose to shine a light on unlawful activities rattling the skeletons of financial order in the state of North Carolina.
