
Montgomery County is launching a new Advisory Council on Artificial Intelligence for Public Good. The County Commissioners are seeking expert applicants to join the council, which will focus on using Artificial Intelligence to improve public service delivery and ensure ethical use, according to the Montgomery County.
Neil K. Makhija, Chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners, stated, "The rapid development of AI has the potential to help us solve problems and better serve Montgomery County residents." The county is forming a council of 7-15 experts from various sectors, such as private industry, academia, public service, and nonprofits, to guide the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence. This council will work with an internal group of county employees to implement Artificial Intelligence in government operations with transparency and accountability, as reported by the Montgomery County.
Commissioner Tom DiBello spoke about the importance of using technology responsibly in government, stating, "Taxpayers expect their government to operate transparently and with a clear purpose." He emphasized the need to ensure technology benefits residents ethically. Vice Chair Jamila H. Winder said, "This is a bold and necessary step, reflecting our belief that innovation belongs in government and that public trust should be centered in every decision we make." The creation of the Advisory Council will guide the use of technology, including Artificial Intelligence, for the public good, as mentioned by the Montgomery County.
