This April, the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection is set to host a series of events for Earth Month, aiming to spotlight sustainability and environmental stewardship. County Executive Marc Elrich urged residents to participate in the month-long initiative, as per Montgomery County, "This month, and all year long, I encourage everyone to make more sustainable choices and get involved in the activities offered by our County’s Department of Environmental Protection. We only have one Earth, so let's do our part to protect it."
Among the events scheduled is the Montgomery County Energy Summit on April 8-9 at the Silver Spring Civic Center. The Summit, now in its 12th year, will include educational sessions and hands-on workshops aimed at aiding building professionals to enhance energy efficiency. Another highlight is the 10th Anniversary of Tree Montgomery, set for April 25, celebrating the planting of over 18,400 trees across the County. DEP Director Jon Monger emphasized the importance of community involvement, “Earth Month is a reminder of how crucial it is to take action year-round to protect our planet. I hope you'll join us this April as we celebrate and take steps toward a brighter future.”
The DEP has also planned activities like the Food Scraps Recycling demonstration at Bethesda Central Farm Market on April 13 during Food Waste Prevention Week and the annual GreenFest on April 26. GreenFest, Montgomery County's largest environmental festival, will occur at Marian Fryer Town Plaza. DEP will also be announcing an expansion of its curbside recycling program to include electronic items and household batteries.
