A Neenah man has been handed a five-year federal prison sentence for distributing child pornography, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin announced earlier this week. According to a press release, Roberto De La Rosa, 45, was given the sentence on Monday, by Senior District Judge William C. Griesbach after a tip led to an investigation revealing his involvement in the collection and distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
The court documents outlined that law enforcement first became aware of De La Rosa's activities in October 2024 by way of a cybertip. The follow-up investigation found that De La Rosa had accessed and distributed CSAM on repeated occasions. In the sentencing hearing, Judge Griesbach underscored the charge's serious nature and emphasized the importance of protecting the public and ensuring just punishment, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Following his prison term, De La Rosa is also ordered to spend seven years on supervised release. An additional requirement is his mandatory registration as a sexual offender. The Winnebago County Sheriff's Office conducted the initial investigation, which led to this sentencing. Assistant United States Attorney Daniel R. Humble was the prosecutor for the case.
The conviction is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide campaign initiated by the U.S. Department of Justice in May 2006. This initiative aims to combat the epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse, marshalling federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. The U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, together with the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), lead the project.
