An incident occurred this past Sunday when a minivan collided with a crowd near the Santee Alley in downtown Los Angeles, injuring at least nine individuals. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported the event took place around 3:15 p.m. along 12th Street in the bustling downtown shopping area, NBC Los Angeles states. Among those hurt were three minors and a group of adult women, some of whom were taken to the hospital, while two others decided to quickly leave against medical advice.
The specific circumstances that led the vehicle to careen into the throng remain unclear. Firefighters and paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department were swiftly on scene, treating the variously aged victims. "At least 9 patients have been identified, all in reportedly fair condition at this time, who will be transported to local hospitals via ambulance," the Los Angeles Fire Department detailed in their alert.
Authorities blocked off a section of 12th Street as they managed the situation. The crash site showed the minivan halted near the entrance to the Santee Alley, as captured by Newschopper4, a sight that drew onlookers and further clogged the already crowded district. The LA Fire Department's battalion and other units remained on the scene to handle the aftermath, working under a collapsed awning that entangled the stationary vehicle.
"A total of 9 patients were assessed for injury on scene," the LAFD's update informed. Breakdown of the injured included two 23-year-old women who were discharged on their own accord, alongside four other women and three boys whose conditions were all considered fair as they were transported to local hospitals. The Los Angeles Department of Transportation was notified of traffic control, while the Los Angeles Police Department continues the investigation into the incident.
