In an effort to solve two haunting Guilford County homicide cases, Governor Josh Stein has announced substantial state rewards for information that leads to arrests and convictions. The rewards, which tap into the hope for closure and justice, amount to $25,000 each for details that could end the years of mystery and mourning surrounding the deaths of John Boone and Jakaylen Chambers.
John Boone, a 49-year-old deaf and non-verbal man, was found with a fatal gunshot wound in High Point on January 26, 2022.
A less traversed path near the intersection of Lakewood Drive, and Futrelle Drive became the somber landmark of his demise. The High Point Police Department has encouraged anyone with details to step forward, signaling that even the smallest pieces of information could bridge the gap between silence and a family's solace.
Similarly, a teenage boy's life was cut tragically short in Greensboro. Jakaylen Chambers, just 14 years old, was shot on February 1, 2022, and police discovered him wounded on McPherson Street.
Despite urgent medical attention, the young teen succumbed to his injuries, his potential and future extinguished by an act of violence. The Greensboro Police Department, alongside Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers, has joined the call for tips and information that could illuminate the path to justice for Jakaylen.
Both cases have compelled the High Point and Greensboro communities to confront the grim specter of gun violence that takes neighbors, friends, and children from their midst. The promise of a reward from Governor Stein, as reported in a recent press release from the Governor's Office, represents not just a potential financial incentive for informants, but also a definitive push toward resolution for bereaved families and communities fractured by loss.
The message emanating from the governor's announcement is clear: the state of North Carolina's commitment to its citizens' safety and the pursuit of justice remains unwavering. The authorities, bolstered by these rewards, maintain an open door for tips via multiple channels, including direct contact with the High Point and Greensboro Police Departments, as well as the State Bureau of Investigation. For the sake of John Boone, Jakaylen Chambers, and the fabric of Guilford County, they await the missing pieces only the public can provide.
