In a moment celebrated for its significance in expanding North Carolina's clean energy sector, Governor Josh Stein stood alongside business magnates and political figures to unveil the new Boviet Solar module factory in Greenville. The inauguration of this factory marks a $294 million investment by Boviet Solar and underscores Governor Stein's ongoing commitment to nurturing a sustainable energy environment within the state.
"North Carolina continues to be a leader in the clean energy economy, and I am proud to welcome Boviet Solar as it opens its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Greenville," Governor Stein stated at the event, going on to add, "As our state grows, so do our energy needs. I look forward to partner with Boviet Solar to strengthen our workforce and build stronger clean tech infrastructure in North Carolina." These remarks, as reported by the Office of Governor Stein, highlight the optimism prevailing at the ceremony.
Lee Lilley, N.C. Commerce Secretary, also shared perspective on the state's position within the clean energy industry. "With nearly 110,000 people working in our clean energy sector, North Carolina ranks ninth in the nation for clean energy jobs," said Lilley. His remarks extended to acknowledge Boviet's value to the local supply chain, which boasts a lineup of 220 solar companies already operating within the state's borders.
Boviet Solar's foray into the North American market started with their announcement in 2024 to create upwards of 900 jobs and make a $294 million investment in this first manufacturing facility in North America. The company, with origins in Vietnam, has established itself as a forerunner in solar project development with a diverse clientele spanning commercial, industrial, and residential sectors in the United States. The new Pitt County facility plans to significantly amp up the company's global production capability with a 1-million-square foot manufacturing campus. These details were shared in the aforementioned release from Governor Stein's office.
