Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, joined by Lt. Governor Jim Tressel and Development Director Lydia Mihalik, has announced the approval of six major projects expected to boost the state's economy significantly. As reported by the Governor's office yesterday, these initiatives are expected to create 699 new jobs and retain nearly 300 existing ones across Ohio, resulting in over $62 million in new payroll and prompting investments of upwards of $835 million statewide.

The Ohio Tax Credit Authority (TCA) gave the green light to the projects, which were presented in collaboration with JobsOhio and its regional partners. The economic development proposals aim to diversify and expand Ohio's job market and industrial capabilities. According to a statement obtained by the governor's office, a diverse array of sectors is represented, including architectural design, healthcare, logistics, and manufacturing. Each project has been approved for a Job Creation Tax Credit, with specific percentages and durations tailored respectively.

In Columbus' sector of the economic boom, Dri-Design Inc. is expected to create 29 full-time jobs, generating more than $2.2 million in new payroll through its innovative metal wall panel systems. Following suit, Wandel & Schnell Architects (WSA), Inc. is expected to create 20 new positions and $1.7 million in new payroll with its expansion of architecture and design services. XPO Logistics Freights, Inc. rounds out the Columbus beneficiaries with an expected 55 new jobs and over $3.3 million in additional payroll, courtesy of upgrades to boost their logistics operations.

Moving to Ohio's northeast, giants like Kimberly-Clark are also making headway, with an impressive projection of 491 new jobs and a $49.1 million payroll increase tied to a new facility in Trumbull County. In the southwest, healthcare innovator LetsGetChecked, Inc. plans to contribute 74 jobs and $4.5 million in payroll from Fairfield, while Swiss-based SkyCell North America, Inc. eyes 30 new roles and $2.1 million in payroll from a strategic facility in West Chester.

These tax credits serve as performance-based incentives, meaning their actual value depends squarely on the number of jobs created and the payroll generated, the success of which will undergo state verification. The future looks promising for Ohio's industry and workforce as these projects unfold.
