Philadelphia has launched its "ItsASummerThing" lineup, offering a variety of activities for the city's youth during the summer. These programs are designed to engage children in both recreational and educational experiences, providing safe and structured options while school is out, as per the City of Philadelphia release.

Mayor Cherelle L. Parker, along with other city officials, announced the initiative, which includes the Third Annual Parent and Youth Resource Fair on April 26 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The fair will provide resources such as educational materials and job opportunities.

The summer programs aim to teach new skills and create lasting memories. They include summer camps, work-based learning opportunities, and access to pools and spray grounds to stay cool. The School District of Philadelphia also supports these efforts, with Superintendent Tony B. Watlington, Sr. emphasizing the importance of fun, relationship-building, and exploration outside the academic year.

The Free Library of Philadelphia’s Summer of Wonder and other programs like Playstreets and the Police Athletic League offer a range of activities for youth. Susan Slawson, Commissioner of Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, highlighted the city’s commitment to providing accessible programs that keep children active, engaged, and safe. Additionally, financial literacy, STEM programs, and conflict resolution workshops are included in the lineup.

According to the same release, families can find more information, including registration details, on the "ItsASummerThing" website. Regular updates will also be posted to keep the community informed about these summer opportunities.
