On Monday, Pierce County deputies chased a black Escalade with fake license plates. The pursuit ended on Meridian Ave. E., where they arrested a 31-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman. "After a closer look at the license plate, it was a fake paper picture of a license plate that was laminated and placed on the vehicle to look real," according to the Pierce County Sheriff's Office. The car had cash, small bags, and drug paraphernalia and was impounded for a drug distribution investigation.
A 54-year-old man was arrested on a felony warrant from California for sexual assault charges involving a minor. The warrant had been evading Pierce County deputies, but they were able to capture the suspect after ongoing surveillance. His bail is set at one million dollars, and he is scheduled for extradition to California, as reported by the Pierce County Sheriff's Office.
A 16-year-old driver, intoxicated, attempted to evade deputies by turning off the minivan's headlights and speeding away. After crashing into a ditch, the teen was subdued with a non-lethal beanbag shotgun after resisting arrest. The minor was released to their parents due to legal restrictions on juvenile offenders. The Sheriff's Department issued a statement, saying, "As always, we will keep doing our part in keeping the community safe. Have a great week," reaffirming their commitment to public safety, as stated by the Pierce County Sheriff's Office.
