In an event that reflects Pittsburgh's commitment to multicultural inclusion, Mayor Ed Gainey presided over a ceremony honoring 25 new citizens from an expansive spread of nations. According to a media advisory from the City of Pittsburgh, this event showcased the city's tradition of welcoming individuals from many backgrounds.
The ceremony in the Mayor’s Conference Room at the City-County Building became a small yet poignant glimpse into a world where diversity is tolerated and celebrated. As stated in the city's announcement, "The newly naturalized citizens represent a rich tapestry of cultures and backgrounds," which included individuals from as many as 21 different countries such as Cameroon, Canada, China, and Colombia. Notably, multiple citizens originated from El Salvador (2), Germany (2), Ireland (2), and Mexico (2), representing a microcosm of our global society.
